What is ‘GSM’?

The right paper choice for your product is essential, but with so many options out there, it can be confusing – and then also, what the heck is GSM? This refers to grams per square meter and defines the thickness of the paper or cardstock used.

For day to day paper products such as memo pads and planners, many stationery businesses will opt for a low grade 80 GSM paper – think printer paper. All day to day paper products found at paperhype.co.uk are constructed using professional quality 120 GSM, or higher, paper for a smooth finish that doesn’t bleed through when using regular pens and pencils.

You’ll also see a range of die cut and planner stickers available via our shop, these are available in a range of sticker materials including clear gloss, transparent matte, matte vinyl, gloss white, matte white and even kraft paper! You can find out the paper specifications of your chosen sticker under the description.

For other products that require more strength, such as business cards, loyalty cards and invitations, we generally use a 250 – 300 GSM high quality cardstock in our manufacturing process. You’ll see the paper specifications for products on our site in the item’s description.
